Museum-quality giclee print on thick and durable matte paper. This work was created for a live audience at the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Gallery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The performance occurred concurrently with their exhibition "A Century of Robots: Capek to Now" and is inspired by the Czech play R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots) that first introduced the word robot.
This work was collaboratively created with Hip Hop dancer, Angelica DeLashmette-Hurst and is titled, "Sapient" (Hip Hop Fusion).
The pieces is one of two paintings created during the performance "Sapient" which was held outdoors. During the performance, Amenda Tate utilized her motion-controlled, custom painting robot, Manibus, to translate the movement and energy of the dance into abstract painting.
The companion work painted at the performance is titled "Sapient" (Polka) and was created by translating the dance movement of a traditional polka dance. Both paintings feature coordinated color palettes to connect the two works as part of a whole, yet allow the viewer the visually discern the differences in stylistic movement.
